The estate of Mac Miller has released the posthumous album Balloonerism, which officially dropped on January 17 – two days before what would have been Mac’s 33rd birthday. Balloonerism, recorded between 2013 and 2014, is the late rapper’s seventh studio effort and the second posthumous release (following the album Circles album in 2020) following Miller’s death in September 2018.

Balloonerism contains 14 tracks with features from SZA on “DJ’s Chord Organ” and Delusional Thomas on “Transformations”. The other solo tracks include “Tambourine Dream”, “Do You Have a Destination?”, “Friendly Hallucinations”, “Mrs. Deborah Downer”, “Shangri-La”, “Excelsior”, “Manakins” and more. Miller’s estate also put out a short film on Prime Video in tandem with the album release; you can watch the film – HERE.

A statement previously shared by Miller’s family says of the album: “Many of Malcolm’s fans are aware of Balloonerism, a full-length album that Malcolm created around the time of the release of Faces in 2014. It is a project that was of great importance to Malcolm — to the extent that he commissioned artwork for it and discussions concerning when it should be released were had regularly, though ultimately GO:OD AM and subsequent albums ended up taking precedence … We believe the project showcases both the breadth of his musical talents and fearlessness as an artist. Given that unofficial versions of the album have circulated online for years and that releasing Balloonerism was something that Malcolm frequently expressed being important to him, we felt it most appropriate to present an official version of the project to the world. With that in mind, we’re happy to announce that Balloonerism will be released on January 17th, 2025.”

Fans can cop a physical version of the album, which includes a limited-edition deluxe two-LP pressing that features a rainbow foil-wrapped slipcase with white splatter cloud vinyl and a 32-page color booklet featuring photos and lyrics, as well as a limited one-time pressing that features clear vinyl available now on balloonerism.com.

Prior to the full drop of Balloonerism, the lead track,”5 Dollar Pony Rides,” was released – clocking in at almost four minutes long. and also recorded between 2013-2014. Listen to 5 Dollar Pony Rides: HERE.
